　ペテロの第一の手紙第１章

１	イエス・キリストの使徒ペテロから、ポント、ガラテヤ、カパドキヤ、アジヤおよびビテニヤに離散し外国人として寄留している人たちへ。
	Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
２	父なる神の予知されたところによって選ばれ、御霊のきよめにあずかっている人たちへ。即ち、イエス・キリストに従い、かつ、その血のそそぎを受けるために、恵みと平安とがあなたがたに豊かに加わりますように。
	according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
３	ほむべきかな、私たちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神。神は、その豊かなあわれみにより、イエス・キリストを死人の中からよみがえらせ、それにより、私たちを新たに生れさせて生ける望みをいだかせてくれました。
	Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
４	あなたがたのために天にたくわえてある、朽ちず汚れず、しぼむことのない資産を受け継ぐ者として下さったのです。
	to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn't fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,
５	あなたがたは、終りの時に啓示さるべき救にあずかるための信仰により神の御力に守られている人たちです。
	who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
６	そのことを思って、今しばらくのあいだは、さまざまな試錬で悩まねばならないかも知れないが、あなたがたは大いに喜んでいます。
	Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials,
７	こうして、あなたがたの信仰はためされています。その信仰は、火で精錬されても朽ちる外はない金よりもはるかに尊いことが明らかにされています。イエス・キリストの現れるとき、賛美と栄光と誉れとに変ることが分かるでせう。
	that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ--
８	あなたがたは、イエス・キリストを見たことはないが、彼を愛している。現在、見てはいないけれども、信じて、言葉につくせない、栄光に満ちた大いなる喜びにあふれています。
	whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don't see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory--
９	それは、信仰の結果なる魂の救を得ているからです。
	receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
１０	この救いについては、あなたがたに来る恵みのことを預言した預言者たちも、探し求め且つつぶさに調べました。
	Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
１１	彼らは、自分たちのうちにいますキリストの霊が、キリストの苦難とそれに続く栄光とを、あらかじめ証しした時、それは、いつの時、どんな場合をさしたのかを、調べたのです。
	searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.
	そして、それらについて調べたのは、自分たちのためではなくて、あなたがたのための奉仕であることを示されました。
	To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you,
１２	それらの事は、天からつかわされた聖霊に感じて福音をあなたがたに宣べ伝えた人々によって、今や、あなたがたに告げ知らされたのです。これは、御使いたちも、うかがい見たいと願っている事です。
	they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.
１３	それ故に、心の腰に帯を締め、身を慎み、イエス・キリストの現れる時に与えられる恵みを、いささかも疑わずに待ち望んでいなさい。
	Therefore prepare your minds for action, {literally, "gird up the waist of your mind" or "put on the belt of the waist of your mind"} be sober and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ--
１４	従順な子供として、無知であった時代の欲情に従わず、
	as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,
１５	むしろ、あなたがたを召して下さった聖なるかたにならって、あなたがた自身も、あらゆる行いにおいて聖なる者となりなさい。
	but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior;
１６	なぜなら、聖書に、「私が聖なる者であるから、あなたがたも聖なる者になるべきである」と書かれているからです。
	because it is written, "You shall be holy; for I am holy." {Leviticus 11:44-45}
１７	あなたがたは、人をそれぞれのしわざに応じて、公平にさばくかたを父と呼んでいるからには、地上に宿っている間を、おそれの心をもって過ごすべきです。
	If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man's work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear:
１８	あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、あなたがたが先祖伝来の空疎な生活からあがない出されたのは、銀や金のような朽ちる物によったのではありません。
	knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,
１９	きずも、しみもない小羊のようなキリストの尊い血によっているのです。
	but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of Christ;
２０	キリストは、天地が造られる前から、あらかじめ知られていたのです、この終りの時に至って、あなたがたのために現れたのです。
	who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of times for your sake,
２１	あなたがたは、このキリストによって、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせて、栄光をお与えになった神を信じる者となったのであり、従って、あなたがたの信仰と望みとは神にかかっているのす。
	who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.
２２	あなたがたは、真理に従うことによって魂を清め、偽りのない兄弟愛をいだくに至ったのですから、互に心から熱く愛し合いなさい。
	Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:
２３	あなたがたが新たに生れたのは、朽ちる種からではなく、朽ちない種から、即ち神の変ることのない生ける御言によったのす。
	having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.
２４	あなたがたが新たに生れたのは、朽ちる種からではなく、朽ちない種から、すなわち、神の変ることのない生ける御言によったのです。
	For, "All flesh is like grass, and all of man's glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;
２５	「人はみな草のごとく、その栄華はみな草の花に似ている。草は枯れ、花は散る。しかし、主の言葉は、とこしえに残る」。
	but the Lord's word endures forever." {Isaiah 40:6-8} This is the word of Good News which was preached to you.
２６	これが、あなたがたに宣べ伝えられた御言葉なのです。

　ペテロの第一の手紙第２章

１	だから、あらゆる悪意、あらゆる偽り、偽善、そねみ、いっさいの悪口を捨てなさい。
	Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking,
２	今生れたばかりの乳飲み子のように、混じりけのない霊の乳を慕い求めなさい。それによっておい育ち、救いに入るようになるためなのです。
	as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby,
３	あなたがたは、主が恵み深いかたであることを、すでに味わい知ったはずです。
	if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious:
４	主は、人には捨てられましたが、神にとっては選ばれた尊い生ける石です。
	coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.
５	この主のみもとにきて、あなたがたも、それぞれ生ける石となって、霊の家に築き上げられ、聖なる祭司となって、イエス・キリストにより、神によろこばれる霊のいけにえを捧げなさい。
	You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
６	なぜなら、聖書にこう書かれているからです。「見よ、わたしはシオンに、選ばれた尊い石、隅のかしら石を置く。それにより頼む者は、決して失望に終ることがない」。
	Because it is contained in Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen, and precious: He who believes in him will not be disappointed." {Isaiah 28:16}
７	この石は、より頼んでいるあなたがたには尊いものですが、不信仰な人々には「家造りらの捨てた石で、隅のかしら石となったもの」、
	For you who believe therefore is the honor, but for those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected, has become the chief cornerstone," {Psalm 118:22}
８	また「つまずきの石、妨げの岩」です。しかし、彼らがつまずくのは、御言に従わないからであって、彼らは実はそうなるように定められていたのです。
	and, "a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense." {Isaiah 8:14} For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed.
９	しかし、あなたがたは、選ばれた種族、祭司の国、聖なる国民、神につける民です。それによって、あなたがたは、暗やみから驚くべきみ光に招き入れて下さったかたのみわざを語り伝えることになるでせう。
	But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
１０	あなたがたは、以前は神の民でなかったが、いまは神の民であり、以前は、あわれみを受けたことのない者であったが、いまは、あわれみを受けた者となっています。
	who in time past were no people, but now are God's people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
１１	愛する者たちよ。あなたがたに勧める。あなたがたは、この世の旅人であり寄留者であるから、魂に戦いをいどむ肉の欲を避けなさい。
	Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
１２	異邦人の中にあって、りっぱな行いをしなさい。そうすれば、彼らは、あなたがたを悪人呼ばわりしていても、あなたがたのりっぱなわざを見て、かえって、おとずれの日に神をあがめるようになります。
	having good behavior among the nations, so in that of which they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation.
１３	あなたがたは、すべて人の立てた制度に、主のゆえに従いなさい。主権者としての王であろうと、
	Therefore subject yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme;
１４	あるいは、悪を行う者を罰し善を行う者を賞するために、王からつかわされた長官であろうと、これに従いなさい。
	or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well.
１５	善を行うことによって、愚かな人々の無知な発言を封じるのは、神の御旨なのです。
	For this is the will of God, that by well-doing you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
１６	自由人にふさわしく行動しなさい。ただし、自由をば悪を行う口実として用いず、神の僕にふさわしく行動しなさい。
	as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God.
１７	すべての人をうやまい、兄弟たちを愛し、神をおそれ、王を尊びなさい。
	Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
１８	僕たる者よ。心からのおそれをもって主人に仕えなさい。善良で寛容な主人だけにでなく、気むずかしい主人にも、そうしなさい。
	Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the wicked.
１９	もし誰かが、不当な苦しみを受けても、神を仰いでその苦痛を耐え忍ぶなら、それは立派なことです。
	For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God.
２０	悪いことをして打ちたたかれ、それを忍んだとしても、なんの手柄になります。しかし善を行って苦しみを受け、しかもそれを耐え忍んでいるとすれば、これこそ神に褒められるに足りることです。
	For what glory is it if, when you sin, you patiently endure beating? But if, when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God.
２１	あなたがたは、実に、そうするようにと召されたのである。キリストも、あなたがたのために苦しみを受け、御足の跡を踏み従うようにと、模範を残されたのです。
	For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you {TR reads "us" instead of "you"} an example, that you should follow his steps,
２２	キリストは罪を犯さず、その口には偽りがありませんでした。
	who did not sin, "neither was deceit found in his mouth." {Isaiah 53:9}
２３	ののしられても、ののしりかえさず、苦しめられても、おびやかすことをせず、正しいさばきをするかたに、いっさいをゆだねておられました。
	Who, when he was cursed, didn't curse back. When he suffered, didn't threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously;
２４	さらに、わたしたちが罪に死に、義に生きるために、十字架にかかって、わたしたちの罪をご自分の身に負われまし。その傷によって、あなたがたは、いやされたのです。
	who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed.
２５	あなたがたは、羊のようにさ迷っていましたが、今は、魂の牧者であり監督であるかたのもとに立ち帰ったのです。
	For you were going astray like sheep; but now have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer {"Overseer" is from the Greek episkopon, which can mean overseer, curator, guardian, or superintendent.} of your souls.

　ペテロの第一の手紙第３章

１	同じように、妻たる者よ。夫に仕えなさい。そうすれば、たとい御言に従わない夫であっても、妻の無言の清い行いを見て、その清い行いを見ることで恐れをなして、救われることになるでせう。
	In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don't obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word;　seeing your pure behavior in fear.
	あなたがたは、髪を編み、金の飾りをつけ、服装をととのえるような外面の飾りではなく、かくれた内なる人、柔和で、しとやかな霊という朽ちることのない飾りを、身につけるべきです。これこそ、神のみまえに、きわめて尊いものです。
	Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing;　but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious.
	と云うのも、昔は、神を仰ぎ望んでいた聖なる女たちは、このように身を飾って、その夫に仕えたのです。
	For this is how the holy women before, who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:
	例えば、サラはアブラハムに仕えて、彼を主と呼びました。あなたがたも、何事にもおびえ臆することなく善を行えば、サラの娘たちとなるのです。
	as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.
	夫たる者よ。あなたがたも同じように、女は自分よりも弱い器であることを認めて、知識によって妻と共に住み、命の恵みを共どもに受け継ぐ者として、尊びなさい。それは、あなたがたの祈りが妨げられないためです。
	You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered.
	最後に言いいます。あなたがたは皆な心をひとつにし、同情し合い、兄弟愛を持ち、あわれみ深くあり、謙虚でありなさい。
	Finally, be all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous,
	悪をもって悪に報いず、悪口をもって悪口に報いず、代わりに祝福をもって報いなさい。あなたがたが召されたのは祝福を受け継ぐためであることを知りなさい。
	not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing; knowing that to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.
	「命を愛し、幸いな日々を過ごそうと願う者は、舌を制して悪を言わず、くちびるを閉じて偽りを語ることなかれ。
	For, "He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.
	悪を避けて善を行い、平和を求めて、これを追い求めなさい。
	Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.
	主の目は義人たちに注がれ、主の耳は彼らの祈に傾きます。しかし主の御顔は、悪を行う者に対して向かうのです」。
	For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." {Psalm 34:12-16}
	そこで、もしあなたがたが善に熱心であれば、誰があなたがたに危害を加えませうか。
	Now who is he who will harm you, if you become imitators of that which is good?
	しかし、万一義のために苦しむようなことがあっても、あなたがたは幸いです。「彼らを恐れたり心を乱されることなかれ」。
	But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "Don't fear what they fear, neither be troubled." {Isaiah 8:12}
	ただ、心の中でキリストを主とあがめなさい。そしていつも、あなたがたのうちにある望みについて説明を求める人には、いつでも弁明のできる用意をしていなさい。
	But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear:
	やさしく、慎み深く、明らかな良心をもって、弁明しなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたがキリストにあって営んでいる良い生活をそしる人々も、そのようにののしったことを恥じいるでせう。
	having a good conscience; that, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ.
	善をおこなって苦しむことは、それが神の御意思であれば、悪をおこなって苦しむよりも優っています。
	For it is better, if it is God's will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil.
	なぜなら、キリストも又、あなたがたを神に近づけようとして、自らは義なるかたであるのに、不義なる人々のために、ひとたび罪のゆえに死なれた。但し、肉においては殺されましたが霊において生かされたのです。
	Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
	こうして、彼は獄に捕われている霊どものところに行き、宣べ伝えました。
	in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,
	これらの霊というのは、むかしノアの箱舟が造られていた間、神が寛容をもって待っておられたのに従わなかった者どもです。その箱舟に乗り込み、水に救われたのは僅かに八名だけでした。
	who before were disobedient, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ship was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
	この水はバプテスマを象徴するものであって、今やあなたがたをも救うのです。それはイエス・キリストの復活によるのであって、体の汚れを除くことではなく、明らかな良心を神に願い求めることなのです。
	This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
	キリストは天に上って神の右に座し、天使たちともろもろの権威、権力を従えておられるのです。
	who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.

　ペテロの第一の手紙第４章

	このように、キリストは肉において苦しまれたのですから、あなたがたも同じ覚悟で心の武装をしなさい。肉において苦しんだ人は、それによって罪からのがれたのです。
	Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;
	それは、肉における残りの生涯を、もはや人間の欲情によらず、神の御意思によって過ごすためです。
	that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
	過ぎ去った時代には、あなたがたは、異邦人の好みにまかせて、好色、欲情、酔酒、宴楽、暴飲、気ままな偶像礼拝などにふけってきましたが、もうそれで十分でせう。
	For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
	今はあなたがたが、そうした度を過ごした乱行に加わらないので、彼らは驚きあやしみ、且つののしっています。
	They think it is strange that you don't run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming:
	彼らは、やがて生ける者と死ねる者とを裁く方に、申し開きをしなくてはなりません。
	who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
	死人にさえ福音が宣べ伝えられたのは、彼らは肉においては人間として裁きを受けるが、霊においては神に従って生きるようになるためです。
	For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.
	万物の終りが近づいています。故に、心を確かにし、身を慎んで、努めて祈りなさい。
	But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.
	何よりもまず、互いの愛を熱く保ちなさい。愛は多くの罪を救うものです。
	And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.
	不平を言わずに、互にもてなし合いなさい。
	Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
	あなたがたは、それぞれ賜物をいただいているのですから、神のさまざまな恵みの良き管理人として、それをお互いのために役立てるべきです。
	As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.
	語る者は神の御言を語る者にふさわしく語り、奉仕する者は神から賜わる力による者にふさわしく奉仕すべきです。
	If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies,
	それは、すべてのことにおいてイエス・キリストによって、神があがめられるためです。栄光と力とが世々限りなく、彼にありますようにア―メン。
	that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
	愛する者たちよ。あなたがたを試みるために降りかかって来る火のような試錬を、何か思いがけないことが起ったかのように驚き怪しんではなりません。
	Beloved, don't be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.
	なぜなら、キリストの苦しみにあずかればあずかるほど悦びなさい。それは、キリストの栄光が現れる際に、悦びにあふれるためです。
	But because you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.
	キリストの名のためにそしられるなら、あなたがたは幸いです。その時には、栄光の霊、神の霊が、あなたがたに宿ります。
	If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
	あなたがたのうち、誰も、人殺し、盗人、悪を行う者、あるいは、他人に干渉する者として苦しみに会うことのないようにしなさい。
	For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men's matters.
	しかし、クリスチャンとして苦しみを受けるのであれば、恥じることはありません。却って、この名によって神をあがめなさい。
	But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.
	裁きが神の家から始められる時が来ました。
	For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God.
	それが、私たちからまず始められるとしたら、神の福音に従わない人々にはどういう事態が待ち受けているのでせうか。
	If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don't obey the Good News of God?
	「義人でさえ、かろうじて救われるのだとすれば、不信なる者や罪人にはどういう事態が待ち受けているのか」。
	"If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?" {Proverbs 11:31}
	故に、神の御意思に従って苦しみを受ける人々は、善をおこない、そして、真実であられる創造者に、自分の魂を委ねるのが良いのです。
	Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

　ペテロの第一の手紙第５章

	そこで、あなたがたのうちの長老たちに勧める。私も長老のひとりで、キリストの苦難についての証人であり、また、やがて現れようとする栄光にあずかる者です。
	I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed.
	あなたがたにゆだねられている神の羊の群れを牧しなさい。しいられてするのではなく、神に従って自ら進んでなし、恥ずべき利得のためではなく、本心から、それをしなさい。
	Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;
	また、ゆだねられた者たちの上に権力をふるうことをしないで、むしろ、群れの模範となるべきです。
	neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock.
	大牧者が現れる時には、しぼむことのない栄光の冠を受けるでせう。
	When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away.
	同じように、若い人たちよ。長老たちに従いなさい。また、みな互に謙遜を身につけなさい。神は高ぶる者をしりぞけ、へりくだる者に恵みを賜うからです。
	Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." {Proverbs 3:34}
	だから、あなたがたは、神の力強い御手の下に、自らを低くしなさい。時が来れば神はあなたがたを高くして下さるでせう。
	Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;
	神はあなたがたをかえりみていて下さるのであるから、自分の思いわずらいを、いっさい神にゆだねるがよいのです。
	casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
	身を慎み、目をさましていなさい。あなたがたの敵である悪魔が、ほえたけるししのように、食いつくすべきものを求めて歩き回っています。
	Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
	この悪魔にむかい、信仰にかたく立って、抵抗しなさい。あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、全世界にいるあなたがたの兄弟たちも、同じような苦しみの数々に会っているのです。
	Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.
	あなたがたをキリストにある永遠の栄光に招き入れて下さったあふるる恵みの神は、しばらくの苦しみの後、あなたがたをいやし、強め、力づけ、不動のものとして下さるでせう。
	But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
	どうか、力が世々限りなく、神にあるように、アァメン。
	To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
	私は、忠実な兄弟として信頼しているシルワノの手によって、この短い手紙をあなたがたにおくり、勧めをし、また、これが神のまことの恵みであることをあかしした。この恵みのうちに、かたく立っていなさい。
